Background Check & Health

Once you've secured your placement at camp through AmeriCamp, there are crucial safety and health protocols to follow, ensuring a secure and enjoyable summer for everyone involved.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory for all camp participants' safety. You'll need to pay an add-on fee through your AmeriCamp portal, which is directed to the DBS service. The DBS application process is designed to be quick and straightforward. Once completed, you will receive a physical certificate by post, typically within 2 to 4 weeks. However, it's wise to start this process early as there have been instances where it has taken up to 10 weeks.

Alongside the DBS check, you must complete the AmeriCamp Health History Form. This form is essential for health and safety reasons and for insurance purposes. You will need to get this form completed by your registered General Practitioner (GP).

As for packing, remember to bring along the essentials and a dash of your personality. Think about the activities you'll be leading or participating in and pack accordingly. But also, bring those items that make you, well, you! 

Take these essentials into consideration: 

1. Clothing: Pack a mix of summer shirts, t-shirts (6-8 recommended), casual and sports shorts (2-4 of each), swimwear (2-3), and a hoodie or jacket for cooler evenings. Include walking and casual shoes, plenty of socks and undergarments, and maybe a rain jacket.
2. Accessories: Don't forget your mobile phone, chargers, plug adapters, sunglasses, a hat or cap, a watch, and a reusable water bottle.
3. Toiletries: You can bring basic toiletries or plan to buy them in the US. Essentials include a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and sunscreen.
