Flights and Travel to Camp

How to book your flights and how you will travel to Camp upon arrival.
Why are flights not included in the AmeriCamp fees?

We allow all of our applicants to book their own flights independently so they can find the best time, price and airline that works for them. If we were to include flights in the price we would have to charge an estimated cost (that may work out more expensive in the end than you could book your own flights for) and take part of that cost off of your salary. To retain a high minimum salary of $2250 we do not offer a flight package.

How do I book my flights?

We recommend using a flight comparison website like Skyscanner or Google flights to find the best price. You will be told by your Camp which airport to arrive at, on which date, so you know what to book.

When should I book my flights?

We recommend waiting to book your flights until you have obtained your Visa, in case of Visa denial

How do I know which airport to fly to?

You will be told by your Camp which airport to arrive at, as they will likely have all new international staff arrive at the same place on the same day.

Does AmeriCamp provide Travel Insurance?

Although AmeriCamp provides comprehensive medical insurance, we do not provide travel insurance. For this reason, we would recommend seeking travel insurance prior to your departure to cover for any flight cancellations or baggage loss/theft/damage.

Do I need to book a return flight?

No, you do not need to book a return flight before you leave. Many of our applicants book this while at Camp so they can finalise their Post-Camp travel plans with the friends they make over the summer. You just need to make sure you are booking a flight within your 30 day grace period as you must not stay in the US beyond this.

How will I travel from the airport to Camp?

It is the responsibility of your Camp to organise your transport from the airport to Camp and they should communicate the plans for this to you ahead of your departure.

The majority of Camps will organise a bus or taxi service to collect you at the airport they instruct you to arrive at. You will most likely be travelling with a group of staff from your Camp, often from around the world, who have arrived at the airport on the same date as yourself. If you are asked to travel to Camp by public transport, they will provide detailed instructions on how to do this.

What do I do if I miss my flight or my flight is delayed?

Make sure you are staying in contact with Camp about any changes to your travel plans so they can adjust your transport from the airport accordingly. It is important that you have your Camps contact details saved for situations like this.

Can I arrive in the US earlier than my Camp start date?

You can arrive up to 30 days before your Visa start date, however you should be prepared to answer questions at the border, in detail, about:

  • Where you will be travelling
  • Where you will be staying
  • How you will be getting to Camp
